Selah
I was going through all of the random documents that have become hidden away in my computer as the school year progressed, and I came across the following narrative. I wrote this just after I had gotten out of the hospital after my second pneumothorax. Enjoy.
“In the Bible, in the book of Psalms, David constantly puts musical pauses in his songs. The word for these pauses is ‘Selah’. This is the psalmist’s version of a break or a rest. Now, we’re going to take a Selah for a minute or two.”
The lights came down. I wanted to kneel as I saw the band and the crowd become enveloped in the silent darkness. Everybody was quiet. Some around me began to weep in the stillness. Then others began to pray over them. The silence turned into a low murmur. It grew louder and louder until people began shouting and rejoicing.
A voice rose from the back screaming, “Hallelujah, Jesus!” At this the worship leader’s guitar appeared in a light, the rest of him still shrouded in shadow, and he played the first chord to the next song.
God’s attitude that day: epic.
